The Saint Louis Billikens set a new Division I record for fewest points in the modern era, scoring 20 in a loss to George Washington.
The Billikens scored seven points in the first half, then increased their scoring by nearly 100% in the second half! (good for them), only to fall 49-20.
Playing in their first season under coach Rick Majerus, Saint Louis missed 23 consecutive shots at one point.
Granted, these aren’t Majerus’ players. They were recruited by former coach Brad Soderberg. Said Majerus, “It’s like being a step-parent. I didn’t pick them. They didn’t pick me. They are trying hard. They are trying. It is a process. The effort is good. If it wasn’t I would say it publicly.”
Sometimes, your best just isn’t good enough.
So they only scored 20 against George Washington. After all it is George Washington. Now, had it been Thomas Jefferson CB they might have scored 22!
